Shaking Ravens is the musical project of Austin, Texas–based songwriter and vocalist Elizabeth Donihoo. Her songs live in the space where quiet reckoning unfolds — where grief and resilience sit side by side. Leaning into ache and reflection, the forthcoming album creates a landscape where humor and reverence coexist — evocative, embodied, and alive.
The name Shaking Ravens holds personal significance. Elizabeth’s late brother, Shannon, felt connected to the raven as his spirit animal. That image — watchful, intelligent, enduring — lingers at the heart of the project. “Shaking” suggests both trembling and awakening — a moment when truth calls for expression and can no longer remain hidden.
The debut album, Quiet Reckoning, was recorded in Nashville, Tennessee, with producer Billy Harvey at the helm. The record features Elizabeth on acoustic guitar and vocals, supported by a collective of Nashville musicians, including electric guitar work by Adam Miesterhans and Billy Harvey. Derek Halfmann—a core member of the live band and key collaborator—also contributes electric guitar on three tracks. Additional musicians include Chris Donohue, Billy Harvey, and Cory Nichols on bass; Justin Amaral, Fred Eltringham, Billy Harvey, and George Sluppick on drums and percussion; Billy Harvey and Connor Lafollette on keys; and Kristen Englenz and Robert Quallich on horns. Harvey, a longtime songwriter and producer, has collaborated with artists including Crystal Bowersox, Pat Byrne, Slaid Cleaves, Charlie Mars, Salim Nourallah, Steve Poltz, and Bob Schneider.
While Quiet Reckoning was crafted in Nashville, Shaking Ravens is taking shape as a live Austin-based band featuring Elizabeth Donihoo alongside Derek Halfmann. Together, they carry the songs forward — allowing them to stretch, breathe, and find new life on stage.
Shaking Ravens marks a new beginning — grounded in story, shaped by collaboration, and guided by a knowing that refuses to stay quiet. As the debut album approaches, the project invites listeners into a space of reflection and recognition — where feeling trembles into sound and what is hidden emerges.
